As a professional thatch roofing company, with a team of highly skilled and experienced Master Thatchers we understand the intricate process involved in replacing all roof timber and installing a new thatch roof. Our team follows a very meticulous step-by-step process that we have developed over many years to ensure a successful and long-lasting beautiful Thatched roof for your home. Here is an overview of our process:

Initial Assessment:

  • Our installations manager will visit your property to assess the condition of your existing roof timber and thatch.

  • We will discuss your specific requirements, preferences, and any specific design considerations you may have.

  • Based on the assessment, we will provide you with a detailed quote and timeline for the project.

Preparation:

  • Before commencing work, we will ensure the area around your property is cleared to accommodate any scaffolding required and all debris is removed.

Removal of Existing Materials:

  • Our skilled craftsmen will carefully remove the existing thatch or roofing materials, minimising any potential damage to the underlying timber.

  • We will handle the disposal of the old thatch or roofing material responsibly, adhering to environmental guidelines.

Roof Timber Inspection and Replacement:

  • Our team will thoroughly inspect the roof timber for any signs of rot, decay, or structural issues.

  • Damaged or weakened timber beams or supports will be replaced with high-quality, treated timber to ensure the structural integrity of the roof.

Roof Insulation (Optional):

  • If you choose to have roof insulation installed, we will professionally fit insulation material between the timber beams, following industry best practices.

  • This step helps improve energy efficiency and provides better temperature regulation within the building.

Thatching Process:

  • We work closely with you to determine the most suitable thatching material for your specific requirements and local climate.

  • Our skilled thatchers will expertly prepare the thatching material, sorting and bundling it into manageable bundles.

  • Starting at the eaves, we will methodically lay each thatch bundle over the timber frame, ensuring proper overlap for a watertight seal.

  • Using long-lasting, rust-resistant wire or twine, we securely attach the thatch bundles to the timber frame, creating a sturdy and durable roof.

  • Layer by layer, we meticulously continue the thatching process until we reach the ridge.

Finishing Touches:

  • Once the thatch is complete, our team will trim any excess material, giving your roof a neat and even appearance.

  • If desired, we can apply a specialised thatch sealer or fire retardant spray to enhance the durability and fire resistance of your new roof.
